Registration Exceptions

In Illinois, you must have an Illinois Certificate of Number and registration expiration decals to operate your snowmobile legally. The only exceptions are snowmobiles that are:

• Owned and used by a government agency with the name of the agency displayed on the cowling
• Registered in another state, province, or country operating in Illinois for less than 30 consecutive days
• Operated only on private property
• Designed as a toy for use by small children and used only on private property and not on any public use trail
