Age Requirements
Pennsylvania law requires snowmobile education under these conditions.
- A person under 10 years of age may not operate a snowmobile on state-owned land.
- A person 10 to 15 years of age may operate a snowmobile in Pennsylvania only if he or she:
- Is under the direct supervision of a safety instructor during a certified safety training course or…
- Is operating on land that is owned or leased by his or her parent or guardian or…
- Has completed an approved safety education course and has a safety education certificate issued by the DCNR or…
- Has a DCNR–approved safety education certificate from another state or a Canadian province.
- A person under 16 years of age:
- May not operate a snowmobile on joint-use state or local highways, roads, or streets.
- May not operate a snowmobile on joint-use state park or state forest roads or drive a snowmobile across a street or two-lane highway unless he or she:
