Prohibited Conduct

A person may not operate a snowmobile on a highway; public trail; frozen surface of a public lake, stream, river, or pond; or another public place, including but not limited to an area designated for the parking of snowmobiles or other motor vehicles, in a careless or negligent manner likely to endanger any person or property.

A snowmobile may not be used to hunt, pursue, harass, or kill a wild bird or animal.

Penalties

A snowmobile operator who wantonly disregards the safety of people or property can be fined up to $250.

A person who operates a snowmobile in a careless or negligent manner causing death or serious bodily injury is guilty of a misdemeanor and may be imprisoned for up to two years, fined up to $2,000, or both.
