General Provisions
You must obey the following Illinois laws when operating your snowmobile.
It is illegal to operate a snowmobile:
- At a rate of speed that is too fast for conditions even if you are not exceeding the speed limit. You must slow down if necessary to avoid colliding with any person, vehicle, or object.
- In a careless, reckless, or negligent manner.
- Without at least one lighted headlight and one lighted taillight.
- Within any nature preserve.
- On a railroad track or its right-of-way.
- In a tree nursery or planting area in a manner that may damage or destroy plants or animals.
- On private property without the consent of the owner or tenant.
- At a rate of speed faster than the minimum required to move forward:
- On a frozen surface of public waters when within 100 feet of a person not on a snowmobile, including a skater, or within 100 feet of a person fishing.
- Within 100 feet of a dwelling between midnight and 6:00 a.m. except on private property with the consent of the owner or tenant.
