Welcome from the Vermont Department of Public Safety

On behalf of the Vermont Department of Public Safety, Vermont State Police Recreational Enforcement and Education Unit, and the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers, we welcome you to Today’s Snowmobile Rider in Vermont—A Course on Responsible Operation.

This course is required for persons born after July 1, 1983, who are 12 years of age or older and who plan to operate a snowmobile on Vermont’s Statewide Snowmobile Trail System (SSTS). Successful completion of this course will entitle you to a safety certificate that you are required by law to carry with you when operating on Vermont’s trails.

This course will provide you with the basic knowledge to operate safely on Vermont’s trails. It will be your responsibility to practice this knowledge. Safe and responsible snowmobile riders will ensure the continued success of the sport of snowmobiling.

Dedication—This course is dedicated to the many volunteer snowmobile safety instructors who donate their time to help snowmobilers learn to ride responsibly and safely.
